I provide 75 minute couples counseling sessions. We can discuss whether you’d benefit from weekly or bi-weekly sessions.
I often recommend committing to regular weekly appointments at the start of the treatment. There is a lot that comes up week to week in our relationships and meeting weekly can help keep the momentum going in our treatment in order to get the best improvement in our relationship dynamics.
The first session is a couples assessment session where I learn more about your relationship, your history together, where you feel like you’re getting stuck and what you appreciate about your relationship. I also spend time explaining my treatment approach. At the end of the first session, we will check in to see how it felt being together in session. I will share my observations and let you know if I feel like I can be helpful for your relationship goals and if you feel like I’m a good fit for you as well.
Once we decide to start our couples therapy journey together, I do meet with each partner separately for one session. The reason for this is it’s important for me to learn more about the individual within the relationship as often our family of origin and early experiences affect our adult romantic relationships.
My treatment approach is collaborative and eclectic since each person/couple I see is unique. The treatment modality that resonate most with me are ones with underpinnings in emotional neuro-science and attachment theory. I have advanced training and certifications in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
